98 Degrees Vinyl
For this project, we were tasked with choosing an artist and creating a new album using entirely analogue imagery. I chose Billie Eilish in hopes of translating her dark, intimate sound into physical visuals using hands-on materials, textures, and photography. The covers feature grungy textures, chains, and handcuffs to evoke the raw, sexual, and edgy themes in her music, while pops of red and heart motifs highlight the romance and passion. By combining these elements, the design captures the emotional complexity of her sound, making the tactile, analogue approach feel like a natural extension of the album’s mood.

Process
The process was highly experimental and hands-on. It began with sourcing materials in person, carefully selecting objects and textures that would evoke the sensual, heated concept. I then tested different analogue techniques for the cover, including writing with burnt matches and wax, photographing physical textures, and experimenting with other tactile materials. After capturing the images, I edited the photographs and carefully laid out dense text, figuring out how to fit the lyrics into the album’s size while keeping everything readable, legible, and clean without losing the intensity of the design.
